Let me start by letting ya’ll in on what Elskan means (because I wondered about it for some months before I had the good enough sense to look it up on the website!) Elskan is an Icelandic term of endearment: like saying darling, love, or dear. Pretty sweet, right? Anyways, Elskan is a handmade children’s apparel line designed by the amazingly talented Amanda Zink.
After stumbling onto this brand during an online shopping binge session, I was immediately lustful. I wanted every.single.design. Amanda’s attention to detail is unmistakable and if I had the ability to make clothes for my baby girl, I would want a lot of it to look like her pieces.
Here is the catch: If you want to get your hands on some of her pieces, you better be ready to set an alarm for her drop, have a paypal account that already has your shipping and billing information ready, and be ninja-quick with your fingers to ‘add to cart’ and ‘check out’. Every Elskan drop sells out in about 5-7 mins. I promise you, I am not lying. Moms around the world hold their credit cards ready to own a piece from an Elskan collection and are very unhappy when they come up empty handed. So much so that, at one point, Ms.Amanda Zink had to remind people to be nice to her and each other in the unfortunate event that they should come up short during a drop. (I’ve even read a thread of mommas explaining that they barely even look at the piece they are ordering! They go in with the intent of snagging something in the right size for their little one! It took me 4 tries before I snagged a piece from the AW14 Collection.I was at dinner in a restaurant frantically exerting my thumb muscles on my iPhone. *wipes sweat from brow* After my success, I was all smiles at the table (I’m pretty sure, however, this is when my husband confirmed my insanity). I snagged the tribal print play suit shown on the top right corner of the collection preview. With the weather a little too cool to wear the playsuit “as is” I styled it in layers and mixed some patterns.
She sells her collection through Big Cartel, an online shopping cart, but I follow Elskan’s IG Account to be up on the scoop about when the next
battle collection will drop and what will be available and to lust over past items I wasn’t able to snag.
Her last drop was this past Wednesday, January 21 at 8pm CST. I was after this limited edition textured bodice playsuit. I was off so I was ready and waiting at my kitchen table at 7:55, computer open, paypal active, the Elskan website open and my pointer finger itching to start refreshing the page even though I knew it wouldn’t be active for another few minutes.lol. Would you believe me if I said it was sold out in a matter of minutes? You should!
Luckily I was able to score my 2nd most coveted item in the drop! This amazing raw-edged pony tee. I can’t wait to style it! I have so many ideas for this piece. The 4-week turn around is going to kill me, I’m sure of it. Oh well, there are always other handmade shops with new releases to distract me, right? I’ll be sure to post some pictures of my lovely in this piece for sure.
Get on board, mommas! Elskan has unintentionally turned online shopping into a sport but it’s all worth it. I can’t wait until her next drop. Until then, I’ll be training my fingers to be even quicker on the mouse.
