Saturday is Hair Day

In my house, every Saturday is “Hair Day”.

Doesn’t she look excited?

Since this cutie pie and myself are both naturally curly, it is a process to get our tresses, cleaned, combed, moisturized + (if we both have enough energy after allllll of that) styled. Saturday is “Hair Day” because I have to dedicate about 2-3 hours to her hair alone.

After about 2 cups of coffee (& maybe a nap), I start the same 2-3 hour process on my own head.

Anyways, I thought it would be fun to go through the process with you just in case you were wondering where and how to start on natural hair. Side-note: Milly is 2 years old and we have been doing this same regimen for about 4 months now. I wish I had started sooner based on how well her hair is taking to it. My advice is to start a solid natural-hair regimen on your baby as soon as the hair texture starts to change from that baby-silk to hair s/he will have for the rest of her/his life.

Ok–back to it. These are the before pictures so you get a good grasp of what I’m dealing with.

Scary…I know. But the real question is, Why is she climbing on the couch like that? She was posing before I even came into the room!

Ok–I start with Hairveda’s Vatika Frosting.

It smells like cake. It is amazing. The consistency is awesome, it goes on smooth…I can’t say enough about this product.

I use this as a pre-poo and leave it to sit in baby’s hair for 30 mins- 1 hour. I section the hair off and work this magic sauce in and then pull all the hair back up into a ponytail.

I wash this out and go straight into the shampoo phase. I am currently obsessing over this tall bottle of awesome:

This shampoo has lemon and sweet orange oil so the citrus smell is amazing!!Between the Vatika Frosting pre-poo and the Citrus co-wash, your senses will be in total party mode. I follow it up with Shea Moisture’s Grow & Restore Treatment Masque

It gives major moisture which is really important for our hair because it can get real dry, real quick.

Then I prop a shower cap on little mama’s head FullSizeRender 13.jpgand sit her under the dryer.FullSizeRender 14.jpg

I rinse & while the hair is still wet, I add in a leave in conditioner:

I pretty much love the entire Carol’s Daughters brand. They have something for every hair issue and they always have a great smell & get the job done.

After I comb through all the hair, I add in a moisturizer and seal it with some kind of oil. Right now I am obsessing over Mielle Organics Mint Almond Oil. It is to die for.

Seriously.FullSizeRender.jpg

FullSizeRender 16.jpgThere was no styling today since this baby girl was completely over the process after sitting under the dryer.

I’ll try my luck with styling in a few hours but we might just be sticking with our “Messy Hair Don’t Care” motto.
