Brand Review: Amae Co.

Amae Co. is a business locally owned in the San Francisco Bay Area by Stacie Lucas who is the co-owner and designer. I not only follow the brand’s IG account but her personal/family account @thelucasdaily and I absolutely love her.

She is very genuine and funny and off-beat and her kids are super cute and she makes it a point to interact with her followers in a meaningful way which keeps her accessible and lovable and one of the reasons why (I would think) people support her business. I know it is one of, many, the reasons I do! Not that I have tried to talk to her–I am very much an introvert so randomly starting convo is not my forte. But if I was one of those people that easily interacted with others, I’d totally choose to @ Stacie. Fact.

When I first became pregnant with my daughter (as I’ve said a million times before), I immediately began seeking out original, heirloom pieces for her closet. Amae Co. started out as Duchess & Lion, an Etsy shop–that’s where I was first introduced to Stacie’s work.

Back when she wasn’t making clothes more than a handful at a time and mamas were setting their clocks to get pieces when D&L would drop a new line. You know me, I love a good “crazy carting” experience.

Since then, D&L has grown and been rebranded to the current Amae Co. and I am still as in love with (if not more) the pieces. The photos below are from The Fish Bar drop, Amae Co.’s latest line.

I have been buying Stacie’s pieces for almost 3 years now and every item is superb. I fall in love with the shirt, dress, head-wrap, every time I put it on my baby girl. Another plus is that a wider range of more affordable pieces are showing up in her lines, all while remaining responsibly and ethically made. AND she has added a boys line as well! Now RJ and rock this brand with his sister. Win-win.

Summer Swim

I am totally in love with the swimsuits that have dropped this summer from some of my favorite small shops. As I have mentioned before, Texas summer is a HOT summer. Swimming, or at least getting hosed down, is mandatory. You might as well make sure your kiddos are the flyest kids at the pool, am I right?!

1.- Tiny Cottons – Stripes Swimsuit

2. Monochrome Swimsuit- Brand unknown & when I say “unknown” I mean I accidentally erased the credits and can’t

3. Crew & Lu- Black & White Teardrop One Piece Swimsuit

4. Batoko- Cactus Swimwear

5. Crew & Lu- Seaside One Piece Swimsuit

6. Amae- {012} Oxblood/Orange – I’m not usually a big fan of 2-piece swim suits for little girls. I do not agree with sexualizing any- and everything a girl puts on or does but I still lean more to the one-piece swimsuit for some reason that I can’t quite peg. (If I figure it out, I’ll get back to you on that). However, this color combo?! It’s too good to pass up. I would also like this swimsuit in my size.

Bobo Choses-Der Blaue Reiter

Bobo Choses’ SS 16 collection has completely given me life. Named, Der Blaue Reiter, Bobo Choses took inspiration from the Der Blaue Reiter art movement lasting from 1911 to 1914, fundamental to Expressionism, named after this Kandinsky painting:

Other inspiration for this line come from the other genius artists that made up the movement:

Franz Marc

Auguste Macke

Beautiful, right? Well, Kandinsky, Marc, and Macke have been well represented in this line. Take a look at these beauties and tell me what you think.

But, wait, it gets better. They have a mama line! WHAT?!

Twinning just got real.

Introducing…Crew & Lu

Crew & Lu is ran by the amazing momprenuer, Uyen (pronounced Win) Carlson. I have fallen in love with her designs and ridiculously cute kiddos. She is a mom of 2 and a small business owner who still packs and sends out every order with her own two hands, from sunny Arizona.

When I first discovered Crew & Lu, it was a brand that produced mainly leggings and leather moccasins. Over the past year or so, I have watched the brand continue to bloom into a brand that produced the beautiful items you will see below.

One very cool aspect of Crew & Lu is the monthly Lu{xe} boxes. (Isn’t it cute how she separates the ‘Lu’ in “Luxe”?!) Each monthly box holds extremely limited edition pieces that are sold exclusively in that particular box and are never restocked once sold out. If you are a fashionista mom, this is right up your alley! Your babe will be rocking some seriously exclusive pieces that are hand made with a very high-end appeal. Take a look at some fabulous examples of pieces made for the past few months’ Lu{xe} boxes.

Kira Kids is Giving Us Summer

If you’re anything like me, you are counting down the days until the June, July, and August months. I live for Summer–and not just because I can’t get enough of the sun, sand, and water aspect but because some great brands are kicking it up a notch for their summer collections. Kira Kids is giving me all kinds of life with their yummy SS15 collection that will be dropping very soon.

Made in California, Kira (pronounced keer-a) is a self-proclaimed mischievous brand that takes the world in from every angle. Here are a few inspiration shots that were posted to their IG account @kirakids and immediately following, is a picture of the end-result: a perfectly fun piece of clothing that is just screaming summer + adventure.

Dear Duchess + Lion, I Want It All

Duchess + Lion was the first mom-owned (this mom’s name is Stacie) small shop I came to love. Luckily, it was right around the time that she expanded from a one-woman design/production team to 3 seamstresses (or so I think that is the story) and opened an online e-commerce website Duchess + Lion which allowed for more mamas to get their hands on these amazing pieces. (Before this, she had a similar set up to the one I explained in my Elskan post).

The only down-side to being able to get me hands on more of Stacie’s amazing pieces? I get my hands on more of these amazing pieces! My bank account (and, I’m sure, my husband) weeps. Here are some of the item’s hanging in my baby girl’s closet. Go ahead, fall in love! But, fair warning! most of these pieces are sold out…

Before you catch the blues because you cant get your kiddos in these specific pieces, D+L will be dropping a new line this week! Go to the D+L website and look around, you will love the work and what they stand for. Here is a bit about them taken right from the website.

We care for humanity, our kids, and their future.  That is why our creations are and will always be ethically produced by manufactures in the United States that abide by fair labor laws.  We strongly believe in making a better tomorrow for all citizens, including our own two children.  We hand source every piece of fabric, create every pattern, and carefully oversee the stitching of every garment.  And above all else, we are a family here at Duchess and Lion Clothing, LLC.

Hard not to appreciate a brand like this, am I right?

Until next time!

Quinn + Fox Has Finally Announced a Drop Date For The Blackbird!

I can’t help but love a brand created and produced in the U.S but when it’s as fun and quirky as this brand right here, I become completely smitten. Based out of Los Angeles, Quinn + Fox is an eco-friendly, globally inspired brand that promotes artistry and creativity. What I love most (& I love a lot of things about this brand) is that they team up with artist from all over the world ( Canada, Ukraine, and France just to name a few) and put aFullSizeRender_2ctual art to clothes. Another great aspect is that artist are encouraged to contact if interested in collaborating with them. There is no, waiting and hoping or figuring out a way to get their attention. Quinn+Fox seems genuinely interested in art and is looking to collaborate with artists! I love that.

The photos featured in this post are from the up and coming Blackbird Collection. They have been giving amazing sneak peaks of the collection on their IG page. I’m pretty sure I will have to snag the ‘Hendrix’ and the Moon Man tee for RJ. I love how the collection was named after the Beatles song. “Blackbird singing in the dead of night. Take these broken wings & learn to fly. All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arrive.” I think this song rings true to the wild&free resilience that is childhood. FullSizeRender

Quinn + Fox explained this collection as “inspired by music and trends of the sixties through nineties. Blackbird by the Beatles was such an influential time in the history of music. Nirvana, in the nineties was a whole decade of influence on the youth of that time. We are promoting love as most did in the sixties and we cannot wait for everyone to be able to purchase a piece of art influenced by the mentioned time frame.”

That explanation was posted to their IG and after reading it, I was 100% sold on this collection. After lots of anticipation, Quinn+Fox has finally announced its drop date for the Blackbird:
February 16 at 9pm PST

I am currently listening to The Beatles (White Album) and am letting them lull me into the acceptance that Quinn + Fox will be receiving my credit card information very very soon.

Oliva (No Pope)

If your kiddo is anything like mine, a book with paper pages is about as safe as…well…paper in the hands of a toddler. After a few of my favorite books were torn to pieces ( Goodbye, One Fish Two Fish!) I opted into collecting board books. They are way more durable and my youngest has decided that they are amazing teething toys!

Here is one of my new favorites in our home library: ‘Olivia’ written + illustrated by Ian Falconer. The illustrations are simple and crisp and the entire book is illustrated in various shades of black and pops of red. It really is visually appealing and while I am big on rhyming books ( my son seems to remember words better when learned in a rhythm!) and this one is not that, the sentences and story line are simply amazing. I enjoy the book as much as my little one does, if not more.

This is Olivia. She is good at lots of things.
